PROUD CONTRIBUTORS: T he Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada8 // www.womendrivingchangemagazine.ca As I write this, we are preparing for the 5 th Annual Bridging the Barriers Educational Conference in Mississauga, Ontario. Highlights of this year’s” con- ference will include a panel on insur- ance, a focus on human trafficking, and updates on diversity, equity, and inclu- sion. This year’s special guest is the Hon- ourable Caroline Mulroney, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation, who will be greeting our attendees. The overall goal for the event is to bring all areas of the industry together in one space, from the front line, to safety, up to and including senior decision makers, and government officials as well. Bringing industry together is one of our key objectives. Samantha Clarke, a WTFC Board member and the Com- mercial Driver Solutions Manager at Knowledge Surge Institute in Barrie, Ontario, recently attended an event in Orangeville that featured hands- on demos, local skilled tradespeople, and the opportunity for students and parents to see the opportunities avail- able in “non-traditional” careers. She said, “One of my favourite parts of my job is sharing information about this incredible industry with our future generations. I had such a great day at the Dream Dufferin, Interactive Trades Night in Dufferin event, chatting with high school students and parents about the trucking industry and every- thing it has to offer.” Events like these provide an amaz- ing opportunity to share what makes our professional so rewarding. While we have many issues impacting our industry today, including recruiting and retention, training, and safe- ty issues, we shouldn’t lose focus on the future of our industry as well. We need to get back into the schools to promote and encourage our youth into he Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada (WTFC) is very happy to be includ- ed in Women Driving Change magazine. We’re all pieces of the puzzle’ because we support all women and men work- ing in the industry. The professional truck driving industry actively works with WTFC to highlight the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our industry. As an organization that is actively engaged in government conversations, both provincial and federal, we are always at the table expressing the important role women play throughout the truck- ing industry – as drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, office staff, suppliers, and every other role in between.
