Heather Cheeseman is a Partner and Canada’s National Mining Leader for KPMG in Canada. Heather has specialized in the industry for 20 years. She is lead audit partner for several public mining companies and has significant experience providing internal audit, risk and control services, board advice, and accounting and transaction assistance to companies at all stages in the mining life cycle. Amanda Fitch is the Director of Mining and Metals Market – Western Canada at BBA Inc. She has 15 years of extensive experience in both consulting engineering and operations throughout North America and internationally. She has also managed, led, and served as a study integrator on numerous mining projects. Dr. Gerardo Alvear Flores is President of Canadian Engineering Associates (CAENG). He is a distinguished leader in the non-ferrous industry with 35+ years of experience. Katie Koebel is an Audiologist and Senior Manager of Audiology at HearingLife, Canada’s largest group of hearing centres. Katie is registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and has been providing her clients with the best possible hearing care for over 17 years. Michael B. Long , CPA, CA, is a Partner in KPMG in Canada’s mining tax practice with over 15 years of professional experience. Michael exclusively provides tax services to Canadian and multinational companies engaged in the mining and metals industry and is well versed and experienced in the Canadian income tax and mining and royalty tax regimes application to companies at all stages of the mining life cycle. Dr. Carol Ptacek is a professor in the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Waterloo. She is an expert on the fate and transport of contaminants in groundwater, and on passive methods for remediating contamination. David Roy-Guay , Co-Founder and CEO at SBQuantum, co-founded SB Quantum following his graduate studies at Institut Quantique in Sherbrooke, Québec. He now plans to commercialize quantum diamond magnetometer technology, taking it out of the labs and into the field. David is driven by exploring new market opportunities for the technology and bouncing outside-the-box ideas off his team members. Mark Selby is the Founder and CEO of Canada Nickel Company. Formerly the President & CEO of RNC Minerals, Mark led a team that raised over C$100M for the Dumont nickel-cobalt project. With senior roles at Quadra Mining and Inco, Mark has been a recognized nickel authority since 2001 and has served on the boards of multiple junior mining companies. Juan Valbuena , EY Canada Mining & Metals Cybersecurity Leader, is a seasoned cybersecurity expert. His return to EY was driven by the opportunity to influence the industry’s risk management strategies and leverage EY’s platform to address the cybersecurity gap in mining. With a career shaped by a focus on execution and business value, Juan is motivated by the complexities of cybersecurity and the satisfaction of fostering change in risk perceptions. Aria Zhang recently graduated with an MSc. from the University of Waterloo. Her research focused on multilayer composite covers for mine waste remediation.
