The Construction Users Roundtable 7 WORDS OF WISDOM A message from the CURT Chairman of the Board. ‘ ‘ I t was amazing to see so many Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) members at our 2026 CURT National Conference in Orlando this past February. Bringing everyone into the same space is always advantageous, but hosting this year’s event at SeaWorld truly added something special. The backdrop created a sense of openness and connection that carried through every conversation, and it gave us room to think differently, talk honestly, and enjoy being together as an industry, as well as energize us all to help shape what comes next. This year’s theme – Building Tomorrow: Innovative & Collaborative Solutions – captured the feeling of what it means to be part of this industry. The conference provided an opportunity to look ahead and rethink how we plan, build, lead, and deliver value at a time when change is happening faster than ever before. With this in mind, we designed the program to push boundaries, spark conversations, and give our members the tools and insights they need to navigate the challenges and opportunities emerging across the construction landscape. It was special to once again hear from Dr. Anirban Basu, who brought his clarity – and humor – to help calm some of the economic uncertainty we’re all facing. His breakdown of employment trends, real estate shifts, financial markets, and national output reminded us that, while volatility is still very much part of the picture, there are opportunities out there for organizations that are willing to act with intention and strategy. This message flowed naturally into FMI’s industry outlook, where Matt Gierke walked us through the forces reshaping construction at every level. From regional market dynamics to broader construction trends, his insights reinforced the importance of staying agile, informed, and ready to evolve. We also took a deep dive into some of the technologies that are rapidly redefining our industry. Sasha Reed from Procore Technologies showed us that innovations in AI, robotics, machine learning, and augmented reality have brought what was once considered science fiction to reality. These technologies are here and they are already leaving a mark on how we design, build, and manage projects. Building on that, Continuum Capital’s Mark Bridgers demonstrated how AI is transforming the jobsite and helping workers accelerate from ‘novice’ to ‘expert,’ as they take on increasingly complex projects. Another important topic of discussion came directly from our Construction Industry Research Sprint Team, which identified the need to better understand and address preconstruction delays. Through a CURT-commissioned study led by the Simplar Research Foundation, we gained valuable insights into the root causes of these delays and discussed practical strategies with a panel of industry leaders. These findings will help owners streamline early project phases and strengthen outcomes across the board. This year’s conference also marked a major milestone for CURT, providing a first look at our new digital solution platform: the CURT Solutions Portal (CSP). CSP activates more than 20,000 digital records from the CURT archive, giving members the ability to ask strategic, operational, or project-specific questions and receive vetted, reliable answers when they’re needed most. It’s a gamechanger for our industry – one that will help reduce time spent searching for information, improve decision quality, and support stronger project results. As we move into the future, I want to thank each of you for the energy, insight, and commitment you bring to CURT and our industry. Orlando was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together with purpose. Let’s carry this momentum forward and keep building tomorrow; one innovative and collaborative step at a time. The CURT Solutions Portal is a gamechanger for our industry – one that will help reduce time spent searching for information, improve decision quality, and support stronger project results. Momentum from Orlando: Building the Future of ConstructionCOVER STORY Turning Decades of Knowledge into an On-Demand Resource. Cutting-Edge Solutions PortalThe Construction Users Roundtable 9 F or more than two decades, the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) has captured some of the most valuable lessons and best practices in capital project delivery. Through conferences, research initiatives, sprint teams, podcasts, and committee work, CURT members have generated an extraordinary body of knowledge on how to plan, manage, and deliver complex projects more effectively. Until recently, much of that knowledge lived dormant inside reports, white papers, conference presentations, and document archives. The information existed, but the challenge was finding and applying it quickly when it mattered most – in daily work. That has now changed. CURT recently launched the CURT Solutions Portal (CSP) , a new digital solution powered by the Commodoor™ knowledge platform. The CSP transforms CURT’s extensive archive of information and expertise – 20,000+ digital records, including recorded presentations and panel discussions – into a conversational, and even multi-lingual resource that CURT members can access 24/7. Instead of searching through voluminous document files, or contacting CURT staff, members can now ask plain-language questions directly and receive clear answers, in outline form, drawn from CURT’s own knowledge base. The responses include clickable citations to sources for deeper research, if needed. “That was a critical priority,” says Greg Sizemore, President of CURT. “Members are not looking for generic answers. They want insights based on the real experiences, expertise, and best practices curated by the owner community. That’s what the CSP delivers. It optimizes the value of CURT membership – this is CURT’s Blockbuster to Netflix moment.” Members can ask the CSP real capital project questions, such as: • What owner behaviors most influence safety performance during schedule recovery periods? • What factors typically cause early project estimates to drift during subcontractor buyout? • How have successful owners maintained trust and morale when technical realities required major schedule changes? • What project data should owners preserve to create long- term operational value after project completion? Instead of reviewing multiple, disparate documents individually, the portal delivers clear, analyzed, practical responses with traceable citations. At scale, the result is simple but powerful: Members can now explore CURT insights in seconds. The CSP operates on the Commodoor™ institutional knowledge platform, which was developed in collaboration with the Information Systems faculty and AI experts at the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business. Commodoor™ creator and former construction attorney, Nathaniel Sizemore said, “We’ve all experienced conferences and events with outstanding content, but limited ability to easily access and apply that knowledge once we return to our daily work. Commodoor™ was built to close that gap by transforming high-value content into practical, on-demand insight so member-driven organizations can extend their impact to when and where users need it the most.” Initial reactions from early users of the CSP have been extremely positive. Companies that have tested the platform say the experience has been both intuitive and immediately useful. “We at HazTek and Paradigm have been putting the portal to the test, and the results from our team members in the field have been outstanding,” says Herb Strong, Corporate Ambassador for Paradigm Safety. “The information is strong, and it takes only seconds to find answers.” A/E/C leadership expert and ENR Top 25 Newsmaker, Brent Darnell, also sees the platform as a powerful industry resource. “This tool brings together a vast amount of relevant knowledge in a searchable format,” says Darnell. “You ask a question and the system immediately surfaces the information you need.” The launch of the CURT Solutions Portal marks an important milestone, but it is only the beginning. As new research, conference presentations, and sprint team work are completed, they will be continuously added to the platform. Over time, this will expand the depth and value of the system for members. CURT has also established a Digital Solutions Advisory Board to help identify opportunities to strengthen CURT’s digital capabilities moving forward. “CURT wants to be more than just another industry association,” says Greg Sizemore. “We want to provide our members with practical business tools to support their capital program long after they’ve left our conferences. The CSP does just that.” Looking ahead, CURT is also considering collaborations with other prominent industry associations and organizations, and those meetings are already underway. For CURT members, that could eventually mean access to a broader network of construction knowledge to supercharge access to usable industry knowledge and best practices. For CURT members, the most important takeaway is simple: The CURT Solutions Portal is live and included in your CURT membership. You and your team can access it today. Try it. Test it. And see what folks are talking about. To access the CURT Solutions Portal, and begin your CSP experience, contact Greg Palmer at gpalmer@curt.org. By Paul Adair, Staff WriterNext >
