Project Manager, Construction Development Region of Waterloo International Airport kcampbell@regionofwaterloo.ca CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVE Kelvin Williamson Chief Operating Officer JCAII kelvin@jcaii.cawww.iaaecanada.org | Fall 2019 7 As the International Association of Airport Executives (IAAE) Canada celebrates its 25th year of being the premier membership and training aviation association in Canada, it is a great honour to be selected by the board of directors as the new chairman of the board. I hope to follow in the elite footsteps of those who came before me, from Barry Feller and Bernie Humphries, to Eric Tolton and to Bill Newman, to the two gentlemen whom I have had the pleasure of working with on the board of directors—Cuyler Green and Paul Ritchi. Twenty-five years is a momentous milestone to celebrate, and there have been many highs and lows throughout that time; it’s no secret we have had our financial hardships over the past few years, but with the hard work of many dedicated volunteers and staff members at IAAE Canada, the turnaround has begun, and we appreciate everyone’s commitment to assist in carrying that momentum onward. Many changes have taken place over the last few years. Here are just a few of the highlights from our committees. ACCREDITATION COMMITTEE / BOARD OF EXAMINERS • The Accredited Airport Professionals (A.A.P.) program has seen its first round of designations. • The additional options for Phase 2 of the accreditation process—a case study, presentation, proctored essay, or master’s transcript—have made it easier for more members to attain designation as an A.A.E. or A.A.P. • The new A.A.E. accelerated program was created to recognize those long-serving industry professionals along with their knowledge and contributions to the industry we all live and work in. THE MEMBERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE • The new introductory membership level is designed to assist future professionals maintain membership with IAAE Canada as they transition from schooling to the workforce, as they are the future of the industry. • The introduction of a new member benefit with Perkopolis this year. Many of our members are greatly enjoying their free perks! THE GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE • Based on our by-laws, the board also had some changes this year to ensure compliance. I welcome the new members and wish all the best to those who moved on in order to assist IAAE Canada in meeting the requirements of its board composition. • This committee also brought forward new by-laws to bring IAAE Canada up-to-date with current practices. Thank you to the membership for approving these new by-laws at another great FOAM Conference, which was held in Montreal this year. THE FOAM COMMITTEE • Once again, the FOAM Committee did an excellent job putting together a great event in Montreal, from the venue, to the speakers, to the overall success of the event. • They introduced a themed-session program with great success and feedback from all attendees. THE TRAINING COMMITTEE • The addition of the Basic Airport Winter Operations Specialist course has been well-received. The content of this course is just what our industry requested. • A new course regarding the global reporting format for runway surface condition reporting (TALPA) is underway and will be available later this year. • Work is underway for both a professional driver and an advanced fueling course. LOOKING AHEAD As we look to the future, I encourage all of our great members to watch for new initiatives such as webinars and new training courses, and we encourage you to let our board members know what is needed for you to meet your training requirements. I look forward to another great FOAM Conference in Victoria next year, and I hope all of you are able to attend.
