Evolve Your Career & Expand Your Skillset with IAAE Canada’s Course Calendarwww.iaaecanada.org | Spring 2023 7 UP FRONT A Message from IAAE Canada’s Chairman It’s Time to Meet and Look Towards a Prosperous Future Terry Bos, A.A.E. Chairman, IAAE Canada W hile the COVID-19 pandemic delayed this report by three years, I am excited that we will all be able to gather at this year’s FOAM Conference in Waterloo, Ontario, where we will be able to Reconnect, Refresh, and Refocus. It is such a pleasure to once again be returning to more normal times. When we met last in Montreal, Quebec, in 2019, I was thrilled to be elected Chairman; what an honour! While that was the last FOAM conference for several years, it is my honour and privilege to welcome you all to this year’s event. In 2019, IAAE Canada celebrated its 25 th year of being the premier membership and training aviation association in Canada. What an amazing accomplishment! At that time, and in the years since, we have had several changes at the Board level with some members leaving and other new members joining the team. In the fall of 2019, changes extended to Association staffing as we welcomed Michelle Cretzman, who stepped in as the Executive Director. It is no secret that there were financial hardships over the few years preceding 2020. With the hard work of many dedicated volunteers and the staff members at IAAE Canada, the year 2020 (despite COVID-19), was a year of turnaround that will ensure the long-term viability of the association. We are an association built by and for our members, and it is our members who, through their dedication, have guided IAAE Canada to its current progressive place. Moving forward we will focus on building attendance at FOAM, promoting the excellent training opportunities offered by IAAE Canada, and most importantly, working to attract new members to the association and assisting those members through the certification process to achieve the coveted A.A.E./A.A.P. designations. Many changes have taken place since I last wrote for this magazine in 2020. Here are just a few of the highlights from the Committees: ACCREDITATION COMMITTEE/BOARD OF EXAMINERS: • The A.A.P. program has now produced multiple Accredited Airport Professionals (A.A.P.s) and is now part of the CEU program. • The CEU program was reintroduced effective July 1, 2022, and carries a three-year span to earn the requisite number of CEU points. • The additional options for phase 2 of the accreditation process – Case Study, Presentation, Proctored Essay, or master’s transcript – have continued to be well received and the presentations that have taken place have been excellent. • The new A.A.E. – Accelerated program was created to recognize those long-serving industry professionals and their knowledge and their contributions to the industry we all live and work in. The program has produced its first successful A.A.E. We certainly would like to see more uptick in the use of this program. THE MEMBERSHIP AND COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE: • The new Introductory Membership was introduced to assist those future professionals to maintain membership in IAAE Canada as they transition from schooling to the workforce, as they are the future of the industry, and IAAE Canada is a membership driven association. • The introduction of Perkopolis benefits for our members was well received. • Work is almost complete on improving the IAAE Canada website to ensure it is much more user friendly. THE GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE: • This Committee has continued to ensure that the Board has a full compliment of members who meet the mix of requirements of Airport Active A.A.E. membership. THE FOAM COMMITTEE: • This Committee put together a highly anticipated and excellent program for this year’s conference in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. I hope that we will have the opportunity to see as many of you as possible attend this year’s event as it returns to in-person after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. THE TRAINING COMMITTEE: • This Committee did a lot of hard work to put together courses to meet the regulatory changes in Canada with a new course covering Global Reporting Format for Runway Surface Condition Reporting GRF. JOIN IAAE CANADA As we look to the future, I encourage all of you to please reach out to industry peers and encourage them to join our great association. Please also reach out to the IAAE Canada office and let Michelle know what kind of training you require and when; the Training Committee will do its best to meet the needs of all our members. . When we met last in Montreal, Quebec, in 2019, I was thrilled to be elected Chairman; what an honour! While that was the last FOAM conference for several years, it is my honour and privilege to welcome you all to this year’s event. 8 An official publication of the International Association of Airport Executives Canadawww.iaaecanada.org | Spring 2023 9 UP FRONT THE TOP FIVE REASONS MEMBERS JOIN: 1.
